Abstract

2605. Burden, O. H., and Adams, T. F. Jan. 31. Locks, key, for doors. A latch bolt 9 is mounted to slide in a casing 5 fixed to a faceplate 6 secured to the door, and is controlled by a spring 12 passing through a slot in the casing and engaging a notch in the bolt. A cylindrical casing 15 passes through the door at right angles to the casing 5, and acts as a bearing for a cylinder 16. This cylinder is provided with a keyway or slot 17, and about midway.of the cylinder a circumferential slot 18 runs into this slot 17. A spring finger 37 secured to the bolt has a hooked end pressing through a slot in the casing 15 and engaging the slot 18, so as to take an abutment against the ends of this slot. A spring-controlled lever or tumbler 24 is pivoted in the slot 17 and has a projecting lip or shoulder 30 adapted to engage one of two notches formed in the casing 15 at right-angles to each other. The lever 24 can be depressed, to withdraw the lip out of engagement with the notch, by a finger-piece 29, from the inside of the door, and, by means of a sliding key 27, which engages the end of the lever, from the outside. The key is formed with grooves to engage studs or wards projecting into the slot. The bolt 9 is retracted by depressing the lever and then turning the cylinder 16 by means of the fingerpiece 29 or key 27. The bolt may be maintained in the retracted position by permitting the lip 30 to engage with the respective notches in the casing. A stud or slot 23 on the cylinder engages a slot in the casing, to limit the movement of the cylinder to a right-angle.
