The recoil cylinder B, Figs. 1 and 4, is made in one with the cradle C and is provided with a protecting casing b<1> and protected guides b to receive the lug a on the gun A. The cradle C, Figs. 1 and 6, has its trunnions C' carried in blocks c which slide in curved guides d upon the trail D under the action of the gear c<2>, so that the gun can be trained about the axis of the elevating screw f without moving the trail D. The elevating gear, Figs. 6 and 7, consists of a spherical nut f<1> having a spherical bearing in the casing f<2>, which is carried on trunnions f the nut being rotated on the screw f by the gearing f<5>, f<6>, f<8>, f<9>. The wheel brakes, Figs. 1, 9, and 10, are employed both for firing and travelling. The brake blocks G are carried on frames g which are pivoted by oval bearings d<7> to the axle E. For firing purposes the brake blocks G are allowed to drop down into position beneath the wheels, as shown in Fig. 1, and are held in that position by pins g' which pass through eyes g' on the frames g, and enter sockets in the trail D. For travelling purposes the brake blocks G are raised into the position shown in Fig. 9, and are held in that position by pins which pass through eyes g<3> on the frames g and enter sliding blocks d<2> in the trail. The blocks d<2> are connected by rods d<3> to the nuts d<4> on the pivoted lever d<5>. The band-wheels d<6> are for applying the brakes, the lever d<5> equalizing the pressure of the brake blocks on the wheels.
