Improvements in and relating to platform guns

Abstract

157,092. Krupp Akt.-Ges., F. July 1, 1918, [Convention date]. Field carriages; mounting; recoil apparatus.-Relates to centre-pivot mounts of the kind that are hinged to a firing platform B, so that by turning the mount down on to the platform the gun may be readily transported. The invention consists in providing a screw-jack P which first turns the mount over on to a detachable carriage K, and then raises the platform. Fig. 3 shows the mount A hinged at C to the platform B, which has a forward extension B<3> and detachable outriggers B<4>, B<5>, B<6>, all of which are provided with anchoring pegs H, Fig. 2. The screw-jack P, which is detachably mounted on the platform, is first operated by handles T' to tilt the mounting to the position shown in Fig. 3 in which a bearing M' on the mount comes to rest on the axle K<1> of the detachable carriage. By further operation of the screwjack, the platform is tilted to bring the other portion M of the bearing beneath the axle K, the platform being then fastened to the carriage by straps N and by a bolt passing through lugs f<3>, b<8>. The outriggers having previously been removed, the gun is limbered up by a coupling-ring inserted in the socket for the outrigger B<6>.
