860,082. Differential gear. TIMKEN ROLLER BEARING CO. March 13, 1959 [July 30, 1958], No. 8757/59. Class 80 (2). [Also in Group XXXIV] In a differential gear, a device for adjusting the spacing between rear axle shaft sections 18, 20 comprises a divided block 56 having inclined abutting faces 66, 68 and screw and nut means for effecting relative movement of the block parts 58, 60 along the inclined faces in order to vary the distance between opposed parallel faces 62, 64 which abut the ends of the shafts 18, 20 respectively. The screw and nut means comprises a threaded member 74 having left and right-hand threads over its opposite end portions which engage correspondingly threaded bores 80, 76 in the block part 58 and a flange 78 on block part 60 respectively. A lock nut 84 is provided. The blocks have recesses 70, 72 which embrace a pinion shaft 46. Access holes 88, 86 are provided in housings 44 and 12.
