24,436. Hitchon, A. Dec. 2. Spindle apparatus for ring and traveller frames. Upon the spindle A is placed a thin split metallic tube B, having a smooth outer surface, and the yarn is wound upon the tube. When an end breaks, the tube with its partly-wound cop is removed, the end is pieced, and the cop is slid along the tube to an extent to which it is estimated that the winding has proceeded on the other spindles of the frame. The tube and cop are then replaced on the spindle, and, when the winding is completed, the tube and cop are removed together from the spindle, and the tube is subsequently removed from the cop, which is hard and firm like a mule cop, and may be packed for transport without any internal support.
