Abstract

17,636. Scott, R. W. Sept. 3. Cartridges and projectiles, small-arm and ordnance.-With multi.shot cartridges constructed in the manner described in Specification No. 13,027, A.D. 1901, it is found that the forward bullet has more drift, but less drop, than the rear bullet. To cure this defect, the forward bullet 1, Fig. 1, is made slightly heavier than the rear bullet 2, or the forward bullet 1<a>, Fig. 3, is made with a blunter nose than the rear bullet 2<a>. The process is reversed when it is desired to increase the distance between the striking points of the bullets. In addition to the auxiliary powder charge between the bullets, a wad 3 is also interposed, as shown. More than two bullets may be placed in each cartridge. The invention is applicable to pneumitic guns.
