In the manufacture of a header, a rectangular tube 14 is placed over a mandrel 7 of the desired shape, and acted on by corrugated dies 1, 3, 5, 6, the dies 3, 6 being suitably operated, thus pressing and upsetting the tube to the shape of the corrugated mandrel. The mandrel may be cast hollow, with strengthening-ribs 10, and removed by breaking it to pieces with a bar, or may be of wood sheathed in metal, or may be built up in sections, or of any rigid construction, as described in Specification No. 12,928, A.D. 1901.
