Abstract
11,701. Sautter, G. E., and HarlÚ, H. A. E., [trading as Sautter, HarlÚ & Co.], and Rateau, A. C. E. June 7. Steam &c. turbines. -A direct-action steam or gas turbine of the parallel-flow type is shown in Fig. 14. The turbine wheels are made of sheet - metal discs 1, Fig. 1, which are secured to a hub and formed with a U-shaped rim 7 to which the blades 6 are secured. A flat disc may be used, and the rim may be separate and secured to the periphery of the disc. The blades 6 are formed, as shown in Fig. 7, with strengthening-pieces 8 in their angles, and may be fitted to a felloe at their outer ends. The turbine shaft 21, Fig. 14, is fitted with a number of the turbine wheels 23, separated by fixed discs 13 containing peripheral apertures fitted with distributing blades 28. The supply pipe 22 opens on to a row of distributing-blades 27, and the motive fluid passes through each wheel and distributer in turn. The size of the distributing apertures increases towards the exhaust end of the turbine, to allow for expansion, and the centres of the apertures are arranged on a spiral line on the inside of the drum or casing. For the purpose of increasing the power of the turbine, a supply pipe may be connected to the middle of the turbine casing, and fresh steam introduced. The waste steam from engines may be used to drive the turbine. The turbine can be coupled up to a dynamo, or a number of turbines can be employed to drive a corresponding number of dynamos connected in parallel.
