Abstract
10,506. Edison Ore Milling Syndicate, [Edison, T. A.]. May 21. Magnetic separators.-A separator, particularly adapted for use in concentrating magnetic iron ore, comprises an endless belt 1, travelling at a high velocity over a non-magnetic pulley 2, and magnetic pulley 3. The belt, made of leather, canvas with a calendered surface, or other smooth material, is preferably inclined, and provided with rims 12 of flexible material. The magnetic pulley 3 comprises a core 4 secured to two discs 5, 5<1> having flanges 6 which form the poles of the magnet. Brass or other non-magnetic rings 11 are secured to the discs 5, 5<1>. The gap between the poles 6 may be filled with wood, cork, or other non-magnetic material. The iron ore &c. is fed to the belt from a hopper having two deflecting- partitions 13<1>, which direct the material in two parallel streams, whence the magnetic portions move across the belt towards the space between the poles of the magnet, as shown in Fig. 1. The non-magnetic portions are thrown from the belt by centrifugal force.
