Abstract

Magnetic separators.-In a magnetic separator for the separation of iron ores of different magnetic permeability from each other and from non- magnetic admixtures, the magnet system consists of a rotatable cylinder a, formed with grooves b containing the windings covered by non-magnetic tubes o, the poles being formed by the edges i of grooves d between iron tubes c. In each groove d is a hopper e through which the material is fed. The non-magnetic material is thrown out by centrifugal action at f, while the other particles, according to their permeability, are carried farther round and fall between adjustable partitions h', h<2>. The strongly magnetic material adhering to the poles i is removed by a stripping-device l rotating in the same direction as the magnet cylinder, and consisting preferably of a double row of iron points mounted on a brass cylinder.
