Abstract
9801. Brown, S. G. May 11. Telegraphs.- Relays for submarine &c. work have a tongue insulated from the suspended coil and connected in the relay circuit. The free end of the tongue moves over a divided contact-plate. preferably, as shown in Fig. 2, consisting of three conducting-sections f, g, h, separated by insulating- material. The outer sections are connected to the opposite poles of a split battery. The plates may be curved and mounted with a traversing rack and pinion. The coil may be connected to line, or may be made of a magnetic metal frame through which a current continually passes ; in this case the magnet coils are connected to line.
