Abstract

7766. O'Brien, A. April 16. Self-closing valves.-The supply pipe B opens into the lower part of the valve casing, and is connected by passages G passing around the discharge chamber C to the valve chamber H. The sliding plug or valve K has a downwardly-extending spindle, which is actuated by an arm L connected to a rocking shaft L<1> fitted with a handle. When the handle is released, the valve is returned on to its seat F by the combined pressure of air in the air chamber I and its own weight. A shoulder L<2> on the rocking shaft is pressed into a recess in the casing to prevent leakage.
