Abstract

7586. Young, B. April 13. Magnetic separators. -A series of electromagnets A, with polepieces D, is arranged, in the form of a semicircle, upon a stationary boss B, which is concentric with a rotary drum F, made of non-magnetic material. Transverse strips E are secured to the drum, to which the material, such as filings or borings containing iron, steel, brass, &c., or ores, is fed from a hopper I, fitted with a fluted feed-roller J. A spring-pressed flap K, hinged to the hopper, serves to control the feed of material, and a plate L, bearing against the fluted roller, is caused thereby to vibrate, so as to facilitate the operation of feeding.
