Winding-machines; rollers; stop-motions; building-motions; yarns and threads, clearing.- The yarn or thread is wound in the form of a cop on a paper tube N, placed on a skewer or bobbin R, Q, R<1>, the base R<1> of which rests on a felt washer supported by a disc s on the spindle. The yarn is laid on the cop by a verticilly-reciprocating screw-threaded spindle T, which is intermittently rotated by a ratchet-wheel J to alter the position of the thread-guide h. The material is drawn from the skein by a grooved pulley P, which is provided on one side with a spiral scroll for facilitating the placing of the thread in the groove of the pulley. The thread is drawn over a fixed guide a, formed of a number of discs or washers of cloth or felt placed side by side for the purpose of clearing the thread; thence it passes over the pulley P, and over a guide b on the balanced lever D to the traversing guide h. The weighted lever D carries a suspended rod c, at the end of which is a stop piece e. When a thread breaks, the balanced lever D raises the stop piece e so as to. lift the disc R<1> from its driving-washer, and, a projection f on the disc engaging with the stop-piece e, the rotation of the skewer is blocked until the end has been repaired. The grooved pulley P may be applied to twisting-machines.
