Abstract

6912. Boult, A. J., [Barthel, G.]. April 2. Soldering.-A vapour lamp for heating or soldering purposes is formed of a liquid fuel receptacle A, above which is a burner B, which is heated, at the commencement of operations, by igniting spirit or the like in a cavity C. The burner may be provided with channels b serving as gasifying chambers, one of them being filled with a piece of asbestos wool or metal fabric to prevent impurities passing. These channels are omitted in one form of burner. When used, they are provided with cleaning-openings closed by screw plugs c. The burner is formed of a single piece of metal through which passes the screwed spindle D. Both the thread of the spindle and the burner are formed with recesses E to receive packing material, such as graphite, and thereby do away with a special stuffing-box. The conical point of the spindle enters into the conical bore of the nozzle F, and not only regulates the outlet of vapour but keeps the opening clean. A fixing J is supported within the mixing tube G exactly opposite the nozzle so as to receive and concentrate the vapour. The burner is covered with a projecting cap K, having air openings.
