Moulding slabs, bricks, tiles, briquettes, cornices, mouldings, &c.-Concrete, artificial stone, clay, or the like is fed to the mould d by a feeding-pan or mixer fitted with a door or pivoted flap, which is opened by a hand-lever and closed by a weighted arm. A porous pressing-plate or mould bottom A and carrier B are mounted on wheels on rails g, and are connected together by links h, and to hydraulic rams f by links i. The bottom A is constructed of a grooved plate covered by a perforated plate and a filter cloth, which may be made of felt, camel-hair cloth, wood, canvas, paper, or the like, stretched over a heavy metal frame. A ram I forces the bottom against the mould during the pressing operation, and is lowered to allow the slab to be ejected from the mould and removed on the carrier B. The upper pressing and ejecting plunger e is forced downwards by a hydraulic ram u, and is raised by a ram y and lifting-rods w. In order to prevent damage to the slab when it is ejected from the mould, the receiving plate is connected by parallel links n to the carrier-frame B, and a weighted lever o is pivoted to the plate and frame to ba!ance the weight of the slab. Instead of using a separate carrier, both carriages A, B may be fitted with porous press plates on which the slabs are ejected and removed clear of the press. For moulding bricks and tiles, the moulds and plungers may be divided. The mould may be ra sed clear of the pressed slab by two auxiliary lower plungers. For producing a smooth fare, a sheet of paper is laid on a wood pressing-plate. The articles may be discharged from the moulds on to loose ribbed steel plates formed with handles.
