Fig. 3 shows a sectional elevation, and Fig. 4 a plan, of one form of the invention. A portion of the packing-ring b is furnished with pins d, e engaging with holes in a strengthened portion of the wave spring a. Expansion of the ring b is allowed for by elongating certain of the holes. Fig. 5 shows a form in which the strengthened portion of the wave spring is furnished with projections engaging with recesses in the ring b.
