Abstract
4088. Le Mesurier, C. J. R. Feb. 26. Electric railways and tramways with safety appliances for conductors. Conductors.-A guard or other wire C is connected to the far end of the trolley wire A through a resistance m so as to lead a small current through the electromagnet to earth or return. Failure of this current through breakage, or an excess current from fallen wires crossing the main and guard melting the fuse F or the magnet coils, releases the armature and thereby allows a spring or similar switch B to disconnect the main. The guard wire may be included in a separate battery circuit.
