Abstract
3387. Barber, A. E., and Ullmann, W. C. Feb. 16. Electric railways and tramways with safety appliances for overhead conductors. Conductors.-The insulated guard wires 12, 13 are earthed through electromagnet coils 35, which operate circuit-breakers or cut-outs in the feeders supplying the trolley wires 2, 3 from the main 32. The circuit to the coils is completed when a telegraph wire &c. falls across the guard and trolley wires, or when the trolley wire breaks. In the latter case, the tension of the unbroken side of the trolley wire pulls. over the link-suspended ear 5, so that one of the horns 20, 21 makes contact with yokes 18, 19 connected to the guard wire 12, 13.
