Abstract
3323. Haddan, H. J., [Shields, J. W.]. Feb. 15. Pockets.-The pocket is made up of a strip B, Fig. 1, of the same fabric as the garment, a strip C of facing cloth, and the material D out of which the pocket is made. B is stitched around its edges to C, and C to D. These three pieces are then laid on the garment A with the piece B undermost, and a flap is inserted, as shown, and a line of stitching H, Fig. 3, rectangular in shape, is run through all the pieces and the garment. A slit is cut through all the materials in the middle of the rectangular figure formed by the stitches H, and the ends of the material are then turned through the slit to the position shown in Fig. 2. The ends of the piece D are joined together, a pleat K being made at the point of junction. The sides of the pocket are then sewn up. A single or double pleat P, Fig. 1, may be formed in the material D. This pleat comes even with the edges of the pocket when it is finished. Instead of a swinging pocket, a pocket attached to the inside of the garment may be made from about one-half of the material D used for forming a swinging pocket. This piece of material is attached along one of its ends to the pieces B, C, the three pieces are then attached to the face of the garment, a slit is made, the pieces are turned through the slit, and the pocket is sewn to the rear side of the garment. A flap may be used with this kind of pocket also.
