Abstract

2924. Bradley, J. Feb. 11. Bending.-A machine for making tube bends has a pair of grippers M in which the tube T is held, the grippers having spindles m<1> which can be rotated by toothed quadrants L and worms s<2>. The worms are feathered on a shaft S, and move with sliding blocks J, K in which the spindles are socketed. The blocks are traversed by screws F, H, oppositely threaded at their ends so that the blocks and grippers may be drawn together as the tube is bent. The screws are connected by gearing h, the screw F being driven by change gearing e from the shaft S, and the screws and shaft being supported in a frame B. The shaft S is driven by worm gearing W from a shaft D with fast and loose pulleys. The tube is filled with sand and heated before being bent. For long lengths of tube, each gripper may be divided and hinged to facilitate insertion and removal of the work.
