Abstract
23,896. Soc. d'Etudes " Voitures Electriques de Paris." June 25, [date applied for under Sec. 103 of Patents &c. Act, A.D. 1883]. Electric locomotives and motor vehicles.-For the purpose of regulating electric motors employed in propelling tramway vehicles &c. An apparatus similar to a continuouscurrent transformer is connected in circuit during tLe starting and slowing-down periods, the motor part of this apparatus serving to produce a counter electromotive force, and the generator part a current which assists the main current. As shown diagrammatically in Fig. 1, the propelling-motor A has connected in series with it the motor part B of the regulating-device, and in a shunt across its terminals the generator part C thereof, the armatures of B and C being mechanically coupled together. A regulating resistance D is connected in the field circuit of the generator part C during the slowing- down period, so as to increase the speed of the transformer.
