Monotype and like machines ; type, setting etc.; type-writers and like e machines. - Relates to machines for perforating record strips for controlling type forming, setting, and like machines, and consists of means whereby several perforating - ma - several may be operated from one keyboard, for simultaneously perforating a number of control strips. The apparatus operates to perforate strips after the manner described in Specifications No. 22,208, A.D. 1897, and No. 18,638, A.D. 1899. Fig. 2 shows an arrangement in which four strip-perforating mechanisms, such as are described in Specification No. 18,638, A.D. 1899, are combined, and are all connected to the air-pressure pipes H connected with one keyboard. Each strip-perforating mechanism comprises a die B over which the strip is fed from a reel A to a winding-reel C, and a set of punches D connected to the levers E operated by motor cylinders and pistons F, f, to which compressed air is admitted through the pipes H, h by the operation of the keys of the keyboard. In order to render any one of the perforating-mechanisms inoperative, they are each provided with a cut-off, which may consist of a sliding valve plate K. shown separately in Fig. 4. This plate is provided with perforations for placing the motor cylinders F into communication with the pipes h, and with a perforation for admitting air from the pipes H<1>, h<1> to the strip-feeding motor. The plates are moved by levers to open or close the communication.
