Abstract

19,317. Barr, J. Oct. 29. Beer and other beverages, raising and drawing-off.- A waste-preventing and measuring valve or tap for street fountains and the like is shown in Fig. 1. The spindle E of a screw down or other suitable tap B carries a wheel or sector F which is connected by a chain G or cord to a plunger H working in a cylinder M. The cylinder is supported by wires from a sector Q on the handle R. When the handle is turned to open the tap the cylinder and plunger rise and allow a balance weight, not shown, to turn the valve spindle and open the valve. An air valve J at the top of the plunger allows air to gradually escape from the cylinder, so that the plunger falls and the tap is thus closed independently of the handle and after a definite quantity of water has been delivered. An early release of the handle causes the tap to close at once. A radial eccentric weight or a weighted pinion may be used instead of the chain and pinion.
