14,803. Blake, J. Aug. 18. Vertical boilers. -Relates to improvements on the vertical steam generators described in Specification No. 5254, A.D. 1878. The fire-tube plates are thickened on either or both sides round or alongside the tube holes, or the holes are flanged wholly or partially round their circumferences. The periphery of the tube-holes may be pressed out, and the tube-holes partially formed at the same time by squeezing or stamping out ; ridges may be rolled on the plates ; or the holes may be flanged by dies and die plates. The combustion chamber may be barrel-shaped, and the tubes radiated, as shown, towards the boiler shell, which may also be curved, and in this case the tube-holes need not be thickened.
