Abstract

13,967. British Thomson - Houston Co., [Rice, E. W.]. Aug. 3. Distributing; converting alternating and direct currents.-Relates to systems in which an alternating-current generator producing a given number of phases may be connected to leads &c. carrying current of a different number of phases. The arrangements are particularly applicable for converting alternating into direct currents. Fig. 1 shows an arrangement by which three-phase currents in the mains 1, 2, 3 are converted into two sets of three-phase differing by 60‹ in the conductors 13, 14, 15 and 16, 17, 18 by the transformers 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and then into direct currents by the rotary converter 20. This arrangement may be reversed, and a direct current be converted into alternating of six or three phases. Instead of having the two transformer coils 4 and 5, there may be three primaries and six secondaries, which may be in delta or gamma connection.
