The lid or cover a and the body c are each formed from a single sheet of tin plate, by stamping &c., the flange a<2> on the cover being made somewhat larger than the flange c<2> on the body. A sheet or disc b of paper, of the same size as, or slightly larger than, the cover, is placed below the cover, and, if desired, the body is also provided with a paper lining d having a flange which rests on the flange c<2>. After filling, the paper b and cover a are placed on the receptacle, and the flanges a<2>, c<2> are then turned over on each other, or spun together, the intervening paper serving to form an airtight closure without soldering.
