Abstract
10,964. Boult, A. J., [Hinz, J. L. H.]. June 16. Rotary furnaces for the roasting, calcining, reducing, or destruction of various materials, more especially applicable in the manufacture of cement. The furnace, which is inclined downwards from the charging end F, where it is unlined, is formed of portions of successively decreasing diameter until the cindering zone D is reached, after which it expands again at H. In the portion H the highly-heated material gives up a portion of its heat to the incoming pulverulent fuel and air, which is projected through it into the cindering zone. The zone H may be subdivided into two or more parts with intervening portions of reduced diameter as shown in Fig. 2.
