6635. Gr÷ndal, G. March 18. Cement, metallurgical, &c. furnaces. -Relates to a kiln or furnaces for burning cement, producing i r o n sponge, calcining or roasting ores, and for other purposes. The material, preferably in powdered form, passes from the opening q over the inverted angle-irons h to the bottom of the furnace f, where it meets with a delivery device, which may consist of the arrangement of shutters and rollers described in Specification No. 6283, A.D. 1903, [Abridgment Class Iron &c]. It then passes through a conveyer o to the inclined rotating kiln a, which leads into the upper part of the shaft g. Air or combustible gas, supplied under pressure from the pipe r, passes to and fro over the roasted cement &c. up the shaft g, which has angle-irons h, and plates j, between the double walls similarly to the furnace f. It meets at s air or combustible gas supplied from the opening t, and the mixture passes into the cylinder a, where it burns. The products, in passing to and fro over the raw material to the turnace chimney, warm the material and deposit any dust that may be carried over. The joiuts between the cylinder and fixed walls may be covered by a corrugated sheet-iron packing- ring-, as shown at y. The flame is adapted for oxidation, reduction, or neutrality by regulating the mixture of air and gas.
