9314. Hopton, E. H. May 21. Sawing.-Relates to an appliance fitted to band saws for cutting wood on the twist, and especially adapted for cutting wood bars for saddles. The machine is shown in plan in Fig. 1 and in elevation Fig. 2. The table or saw bench B is mounted so as to swing on an axis supported by brackets b<x> and passing through the saw 1, extreme positions of the bench being shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2. The wood to be sawn is fastened by screws a to the end of a swinging arm A pivoted to the bench at A<2>. This arm is actuated by the oscillating movement of the bench B, to which it is connected by a rope C passing over guide-pulleys D, r e t u r n movement being effected by a counterweight connected by the rope C<x>. The table is oscillated by the crank-disc G and connecting - rod H, the disc being actuated by disengageable worm gearing f<2>. The arm A may be mounted on the opposite side of the table, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1.
