7214. Honegger, H. April 18. Sliver cans yarns and threads, finishing &c.- Relates to cans or receptacles for containing slivers which require to be treated with liquids and gases in the operations of bleaching, dyeing, &c. The can is made of suitable material, such as lead-covered sheet-iron, which is not acted on by acids, alkalies, chlorine, &c. It is provided with a perforated false bottom d, a perforated sliding and heavy lid h, which is held in place against the pressure of the coiled sliver by wedges placed in apertures f in the side of the can, and with a solid bottom b in which is a hollow socket c. A number of the filled cans are placed in a vessel with a perforated false bottom, and having a hollow pin above each perforation for engaging with the sockets c. The vessel is also fitted with liquid inlet and outlet pipes, air valves, &c. Liquids or gases may, therefore, be drawn or forced through the cans as desired. To facilitate the filling and emptying of the can, and the application of the lid h, it may be fitted with a removable extension k, as shown in Fig. 6.
