Abstract

4169. Compton, M. D. March 5. Tidal energy, utilizing.-An impounding reservoir 1 is provided with inlet gates 2 and discharge passages or flumes 3. The inlet gate is suspended to open or'close automatically to tidal water from a feeding-canal 15, and is provided with an adjustable counterweight 4. A motor enclosure 5 is arranged alongside the reservoir, and encloses one or more penstocks 6 for motors 7 provided with the usual shaft and driving-pulley 8. Water is discharged from the motors into a basin 9, preferably arranged beneath the motors and reservoir, and provided with one or more ports or canals 12, each having an automatic check gate 13 with an adjustable counterweight 14.
