Abstract

20,960. Cummings, J. N. Oct. 20. Churns in which a rotating dasher operates in conjunction with movable breakers. The churn E is secured to a platform A by means of posts. Standards C attached to the platform A carry a shaft H, operated by a handle h, to which is secured a bevel-wheel G gearing with a pinion f on the end of a dasher rod F. The rod F takes into a slot in a cross-bar D and is held in position by a sliding plate, and at the bottom the rod is carried in a bearing. The dasher J, which is adjustably secured to the rod F by a thumb-screw, consists of inclined blades j fitting into conical flanges k, k<1>. Diagonal holes l are bored through these flanges. The movable breakers L are made of wood, and are tenoned at their upper ends in brackets M so that they are inclined to the perpendicular and to the radius lines of the churn. The brackets M have lugs m which fit into clamps secured to the side of the churn. A plug P is provided in the bottom of the churn.
