Abstract
20,514. Britten, J. J., Bannister, F. J., and Stanton, W. Oct. 12. Soles; heels; uppers; insoles ventilating.-To give flexibility to a boot or shoe at the waist, the upper is not sewn to the insole or outer sole there as is usual. The upper is cut so that, at the waist, its edges can be sewn together over the insole as shown in Fig. 5. For ventilation, the sole and insole have central perforations and h respectively, while a double row of holes i are made in the upper. Holes k and l are made in the heel and upper respectively for the admission of air. An air channel n may be formed, as shown in Fig. 6, by introducing leather strips m between the upper and insole. This system of ventilation may be applied to boots and shoes of ordinary make.
