Abstract

20,413. Imray, O., [Farbwerke vorm. Meister, Lucius, & Br³ning]. Oct. 11. Dinitroanthraflavic acid is produced by nitrating anthraflavic acid in sulphuric-acid solution with the calculated quantity of nitric acid or a nitrate. The product is isolated by pouring the mixture into water. It is easily soluble in caustic alkali, alkaline carbonate, lime - water, baryta - water, sodium acetate, or alcohol. A small proportion of the product is difficultly soluble in alcohol, and appears to be an isomeric dinitroanthraflavic acid. Dyes, artificial.-The foregoing dinitroanthraflavic acid is reduced by the usual means, for example in alkaline solution by sodium sulphide, and the diamidoanthraflavic acid thus produced dyes wool in an acid bath, or previously-mordanted wool, and the shade produced is changed by subsequent treatment with bichromate into a red-brown fast to fulling.
