Abstract

19,628. Watrous, E. G. Sept. 29 Water-waste preventers.-Regulator valves in service pipe. The pistonrod H carries a hollow cylinder G, the lower end of which bears against a valve seat F, and also the flange a of the main valve which bears against the seat I. Upon the lower end of the rod a flange J is screwed. Within the rod H a hollow tube K is placed free to move independently through a short distance. The upper end of this tube is fitted with a time-screw and passage e, and also with a nut Q which bears upon a valve seat R and opening h into the cylinder G. The lower end of the tube is connected to a rocking lever 0, operated by a hinged closet seat. When the lever 0 is swung upwards by the depression of the closet seat, the first effect is to raise the valve Q, and open a passage for the escape of water from the chamber C. The rod H therefore, with its attached valves, is left free to rise. This action goes on until the main valve or outlet is practically closed by the flange J, and the opening F by the annular flange b. When the closet seat is liberated, the valve Q closes, after which the rod H slowly descends, as air or water enters the chamber C by the screw time-passage e. Hammering of the main valve is prevented by the throttling action of the nut d and the disc M in the upper end of the discharge pipe D. The inlet to the valve may be regulated by a conical valve c' with a screwed stem C" engaging with a cross-bar D'. The operating- crank on the shaft P is linked to an arm projecting from a sleeve mounted behind the closet seat, the rear end of which bears against a second projecting arm from the sleeve. A spiral spring within the sleeve acts to force the arm 0 downwards. The inner end of the axle P is flanged and pressed outwards by a spring to make a water-tight joint.
