Abstract

17,837. Mills, B. J. B., [Soprani, F.]. Sept. 4. Felt hats leather or sweat bands ; ventilating.- Relates to felt hats and other head coverings and consists in providing them with bands which lie within the ordinary leather or sweat band and are designed to prevent injury to the hat from perspiration, and to aid ventilation. Fig. 1 shows one arrangement of bands, and Fig. 3 shows the same fitted in a hat. This arrangement of bands may be placed either at the front or at the back of the hat, or one can be applied to the front and one to the back. It consists of a smooth inner band A of celluloid or the like, which lies against the wearer's head, and a corrugated band B which lies behind the band A, the corrugations serving as air channels. The two bands are fastened to the leather C by fastenings E, F, and, when the appliance is not required, the fastening F is removed and the bands are turned up into the position shown at A<1> in Fig. 3. The appliance may be made of a single piece of material, in which case the interior channels would be cut, pierced, or moulded to the desired form.
