Abstract

15,935. Carr, C. Aug. 4. Refilling, preventing and detecting.-A bottle, jar, or like vessel is constructed so that fraudulent refilling may be detected or prevented, by prolonging the neck beyond the part for the reception of the cork B, and forming on it a number of forked lugs a<1>, which receive a thin lid c, and a ledge a<2> for the lid to rest upon. The lid is secured by a clasp fastening D, Fig. 9, which passes through holes in the lid and the side of the prolongation a. The bottle is opened by cutting or breaking the neck at a<4>, or by breaking the lid or one of the lugs. The lid has a handle c', and the bottle has a spout c<2>, or is flared to facilitate the insertion of the lid. Spring catches fixed to the lid, or spring pins D', Fig. 17, may be employed instead of the clip D. The invention is shown in Fig. 17 as applied to tins for containing tea, coffee, &c.
