12,012. Elliott, C., Damp, G., and McDade, J. June 9. Cleaning pipes and tubes.-Relates to apparatus for cleaning and scraping gas-retort ascension and other pipes. The scraping-appliances a are mounted on shafts b, which pass through packed glands in the ends of the pipes d. The cutter shafts are supported in bearings e on angleirons e<1> carried by the brackets e', and are rotated by hand or by power through bevel gearing and the pinion j, which may slide upon the vertical shaft k. The pinion j is secured to the bracket e<2>, and the bevel-wheel l forms a nut upon the shaft p, so that the cutter shafts and the gear are raised vertically as the cutters are revolved. The cutters may act only in one direction, the quick return being effected by clutches or other devices. Instead of the pinions j, l, a worm and wheel may be substituted.
