Abstract

8736. Garland, H., Reddin, H., and Woolliscroft, G. April 26. Motor road ve - hicles.-Relates to brushing-apparatus for lubricating the driving - chains of motor vehicles &c. I the arrangement shown in Figs. 1 and 2, a case a containing solid lubricant is fixed to the frame B by a clip b, constructed as shown, and carries below it an adjustable rotary brush e bearing on the chain A. The upper part of the brush rubs on the lower end of the lubricant. A spring d<2>, carrying a pin, serves to hold the lubricant up, when desired. The brush may be mounted on a spring arm instead of in a slotted bracket as shown, and a second brush, rotary or otherwise, may be arranged to act on the under side of the upper run of the chain to remove dust &c. When liquid lubricant is used, the casing a is closed at the bottom by porous material, or an additional case containing oil may be fixed to the casing of solid lubricant, the oil being allowed to drop on the brush. The brush e may be arranged under the chain, in which case the solid lubricant is forced upwards by a spring.
