Abstract

7574. LÚry, J. B. de, and Armington, W. A. April 11. Lighting g a s .- Incandescent street and other lamps and burners are provided with a slit or, perforated pilot tube and with a plug cock in which the ports are so arranged that a small quantity of gas is supplied to the pilot jet and to the main burner and ignited before the gas cock is fully turned on. When the cock is turned from the closed position, Fig. 5, to the position shown in Fig. 6, gas is supplied by the small port i to the main burner passage c, and by the still smaller port j to the channel d of the bye-pass jet b. A spring pin may be provided to indicate when the cock is in this position to the lamplighter, who then applies his torch to the pilot jet. After the small supply of gas passing to the main burner has been ignited from the pilot jet, the cock is turned full on, as shown in Fig. 8, the supply to the pilot jet being simultaneously cut off.
