As the cock is turned towards the intermediate position, gas passes both to the pilot jet j and the main burner k. When the cock is in the intermediate position, the pilot jet is extinguished, and the full gas supply passes to the main burner. Finally, by turning the cock into the second extreme position, the gas supply is cut off from both the pilot jet and the main burner. A number of burners can be controlled by a single cock by branching the bye-pass to each burner, and providing an igniter for each branch.
