Telescopes.-In telescopes for use in sighting ordnance, the tube carrying the eye-piece is made to slide in the main tube against the action of a weak spring, to prevent shock to the gunner when the gun is discharged. A binocular telescope may be employed, having a vertical cross-wire in one telescope and a horizontal cross-wire in the other, or two telescopes may be arranged as a binocular as regards position, but with different powers and fields of view.
