Abstract

5776. Capazza, L. March 16. Weighting pulp; sizing.-Calcium carbonate is precipitated upon the fibre in the pulp. Calcium chloride and sodium carbonate may be supplied to the receptacle in which the pulp is mixed or agitated. Or lime water may be used in the refining-apparatus, and a current of carbonic-acid gas, or of gases containing carbonic acid, passed through the pulp until it is neutral. The usual amount of resinous soap is now added to the pulp, and the injection of carbonic-acid gas continued until a sufficient amount of resin is set free. A little sulphate of aluminium or other suitable acid reagent may also be added to the pulp.
