Abstract

2273. Day, C. A., [O'Neill, H. G., and Rooney, J.]. Feb. 1. Electricity, administering; medical treatment, special methods of; ear appliances; eye instruments.- The nude body of the patient is placed on an insulated support D<1>, preferably translucent &c., in a chamber with insulated internal walls, and is subjected to the action of actinic rays of light, ozone, and high-voltage electric currents of high frequency. Light is supplied from adjustable chandeliers &c. E, F of incandescent electric lamps, provided with reflectors such as E<1>. Ozone is generated by electrodes, one of which is a ring C' with many fine wire points, and the other an adjustable rod C with a sharp point. Electricity is administered through vitreous electrodes H, which are connected in series without a return wire. In Fig. 3 is shown an alternative form of electrode having an adjustable metallic terminal B with an insulating- handle B<2> and spring contacts which slide over the glass tube A and vary the length of a vacuous space inside the tube between the terminal and a fixed terminal A<1>. The terminal B may be replaced by several fixed terminals. Electrodes of various shapes are used for the eye, ear, nose, wounds, &c. Fig. 7 shows an electrode for the ear, having a terminal A<1> sealed in the wall and projecting into a vacuous space, an insulated handle A<3>, and a contact-surface A<2> which fits in the ear, and the discharge there produces ozone.
