Abstract

1934. Wanklyn, J. A., and Cooper, W.J. Jan. 27. Sewage, treating; aÙrating. -Relates to an appliance for causing aÙration, and is generally applicable for causing the absorption of gases by liquids, but is particularly applicable to the purification of sewage by aÙration. The appliance consists of a rectangular tank in which are a number of vertical partitions which fit crosswise in the tank, and are so arranged that the first partition does not reach quite to the top of the tank, and the next does not extend down quite as far as the bottom of the tank, and so on with the other partitions, each pair of partitions being situated close together. The partitions which do not reach to the top of the tank are made successively lower in height from the inlet end of the apparatus, and the aeration &c. is effected by causing the liquid to flow through the tank from one end to the other, the liquid being introduced at one end of the bottom of the tank and withdrawn at the other end of the bottom.
