26,398. Gibson, G., and Montgomery, J. Dec. 13. Wheels readily detachable; axles.-Relates to means by which the driving-wheels of velocipedes &c. may be removed without disconnecting the chain &c. The wheel hub A<1> is mounted in ball bearings on a hollow axle A<7> as shown, the chainwheel D being secured to a sleeve B mounted in similar bearings on an axle B<6>, the screwed extension of which is secured to the fork E by a nut and washer B<11> as usual. The axle A<7> is supported by a bolt C which is passed through the fork end and axle A', and is screwed into the axle B<6> so as to clamp the axles B<6>, A<7> together. A projection on the cup B<4> engages a corresponding groove in the cup B<9>, and causes the hub A' and chain-wheel D to rotate together. A slight space is left between the hub A' and sleeve B, to prevent the bearings from jamming.
