11,078. Hauff, F. May 14. o-Toluene - sulphonic - chloride. - In producing o-toluene-sulphonic-chloride from o-toluene sulphonic acid, the use of phosphorus pentachloride is dispensed with. In a leaden apparatus a quantity of phosphorus is dissolved in carbon bisulphide or other solvent, and the finely-ground toluene sulphonic acid salt added. Chlorine is then introduced until no further absorption occurs, when the carbon bisulphide is distilled off. The sulphochloride remains in the residue, and can be converted by aqueous ammonia into the sulphanide.
