Abstract
8164. Hellsing, G. H. April 8. Sulphur is recovered completely from hydrogen sulphide and gases containing hydrogen sulphide by using continually, in connexion with the reaction between sulphur dioxide and hydrogen sulphide, the same body of solvent containing a surplus of free sulphuric acid to coagulate any colloidal sulphur formed. Other coagulating-substances are stated to be acids, salts, or any body that is easily dissociated electrolytically and is indifferent to the chemical reactions taking place, mention being made of those referred to in Specifications No. 955, A.D. 1878, No. 5230, A.D. 1882, and No. 15,007. A.D. 1886. The gases containing .the sulphuretted hydrogen are freed therefrom by passage through a scrubber or the like, where they are acted on by the solution of sulphur dioxide containing the sulphuric acid. This solution runs into a receptacle for the precipitated sulphur to settle ; it is next pumped into an absorbing-apparatus for saturation with sulphur dioxide, and then returns to the scrubber as before. The cycle is continually repeated with the same solution, except for compensation for evaporation and renewal when the amount of ammonium salts, due to the use of nitrogenous raw materials, becomes too great.
