Abstract
10,452. Walker, T. W. May 7. Rolling.-A series of mills for rolling rods, bars, and wire comprises horizontal mills a, b, c, either two-high or three-high; between which are spaced vertical mills f, i; g, j. The bar &c. alternately passes through horizontal and vertical mills either by the path l or in some similar way. The bar is guided in its sinuous path by a fixed guide m with a hinged back m<1> kept in place by a weighted arm q. Should the curvature or slackness of the bar between any pair of rolls become excessive, the back m<1> yields to allow the bar wholly or partially to escape from the guide. The arrangement of mills may be slightly varied.
